About

Michalis Giorgallas serves as the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus, as of 3 March 2023.

He previously held several political positions. He was a Member of the Cyprus Parliament from 2016 – 2021 and was Deputy President of the European Party and the Solidarity Movement Party and a member of the National Council from 2012-2017.   During his Parliamentary tenure he was Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources and Member of the Parliamentary Committees of Finance and Budget, Education - Culture and Sports, Environment, Monitoring of Development Plans and Control of Public Expenditures.

He further served as a member of the Cyprus-Greece-Israel Tripartite Cooperation Parliamentary Group, the Ad Hoc Parliamentary Committee for the Review and Modernization of the Parliament's Rules of Procedure, and the Ad Hoc Parliamentary Committee for the Investigation of Issues Related to Loans to Politically Exposed Persons. He was also appointed as an alternate member of the Delegation of the Cypriot Parliament to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Besides his political positions and career, Mr. Giorgallas worked in the private sector as a Chemical Engineer in consulting and in managerial positions in several private entities and organizations in Greece and Cyprus.

He holds a BSc and MSc in Chemical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He further specialized in "Renewable and Sustainable Energy Sources" at the Greek Center for Renewable Energy Sources.
